Volcanoes & landforms
Islands born of fire, getting younger from east to west: from old Mayotte to Grande Comore, still growing.

Discover the archipelago
Four volcanoes risen from the Indian Ocean, set at the northern entrance to the Mozambique Channel. Landforms, climate, ocean, flora and fauna, and population: understanding the archipelago through its landscapes.
The Comoros archipelago stretches for about 300 km, from north-west to south-east, halfway between the coast of Mozambique and the northern tip of Madagascar. Its four main islands, Grande Comore, Mohéli, Anjouan and Mayotte, are accompanied by a host of islets. All are of volcanic origin, but each tells of a different stage in the life of an island: birth in the north-west, old age in the south-east.

Geography
Two great seasons set the rhythm of life in the archipelago: the hot and humid kashkazi, and the cool and dry kusi.

Geography
The Mozambique Channel, its coral reefs and one of the largest enclosed lagoons in the world: the archipelago lives facing the sea.

Geography
Isolated in the middle of the ocean, the islands have seen unique species arise: giant fruit bats, lemurs, endemic birds and cloud forests.

Geography
One people, two statuses: the Union of the Comoros and the department of Mayotte share a language, a religion and families.
