Two main seasons

  • The cool dry season (kusi), from May to October: pleasant temperatures (23–28 °C), little rain, trade winds. It is the best time for hiking and diving.
  • The hot, humid season (kashkazi), from November to April: heat (28–32 °C), sometimes violent downpours and a risk of cyclones, especially from January to March. The vegetation is lush and fruit is plentiful.

The cultural calendar

July and August are the season of grand marriages, when the diaspora comes home: a festive atmosphere guaranteed, but more expensive flights and accommodation. During Ramadan, whose dates vary every year, the pace of life changes: the days are quiet, the evenings very lively. See our events calendar.
