Sources & bibliography
Chronicles of the archipelago, oral traditions, travellers' accounts, work by historians, archaeologists and geneticists, collections of tales: the references used on this site.
Writing the history of the archipelago means comparing sources of very different kinds. Here we distinguish the voices of the archipelago (chronicles and manuscripts from the islands, collected oral traditions, work by Comorian researchers and writers) and the outside views (foreign travellers, administrators, historians, archaeologists and scientists). Both are essential, and none is neutral: each reference comes with a short note explaining its scope.
