Types of accommodation

  • Hotels: mainly in Moroni, on the north coast of Grande Comore, in Mutsamudu and in Mayotte.
  • Ecolodges and bungalows: the ideal option on Mohéli, near the islets and the nesting beaches.
  • Guesthouses and gîtes: plentiful in Mayotte, they are a way to meet local people.
  • Homestays: in the villages, families welcome travellers, a precious immersion.

Where to stay on each island

  • Grande Comore: Moroni for culture, the north (Mitsamiouli) for beaches.
  • Mohéli: the south of the island, around Nioumachoua and Itsamia.
  • Anjouan: Mutsamudu, then a night in the uplands or on the south coast.
  • Mayotte: Petite-Terre on arrival, the south or west of Grande-Terre for beaches and peace and quiet.

Tips

Choice is limited and fills up quickly in July and August. Book early, confirm your arrival the day before and check access to water and electricity, which is sometimes intermittent. In Mayotte, ask whether the establishment has reopened after the cyclone of December 2024.
