The largest island dominates the Comorian football honours list. Coin Nord of Mitsamiouli holds the record for Comoros championship titles, with seven between 1980 and 2011. In the Moroni area, Volcan Club, Union Sportive de Zilimadjou and Élan Club de Mitsoudjé have also been champions. The national team plays its matches at the Malouzini multi-sports stadium, near Iconi. Ahead of the 2027 Island Games, a multi-sports hall is under construction in Mitsoudjé and an athletes' village in Moindzaza Djoumbé.

Mohéli (Mwali)

The smallest of the four islands is home to one of the country's most consistent clubs: Fomboni FC, champions of the Comoros in 2002, 2014, 2019 and 2026, which represents the Comoros in the CAF Champions League. Its neighbour, Belle Lumière of Djoiezi, won the national title in 2004. The rest of the time, Mohéli is best explored on foot and by swimming, between its forests and its marine national park.

Anjouan (Ndzuani)

On Anjouan, football is a matter of towns and rivalries: Mutsamudu, Mirontsy, Domoni, Sima and Ouani each have their clubs. AJS Mutsamudu (2006), Étoile d'Or of Mirontsy (2008) and Komorozine of Domoni (2013) have been crowned champions of the Comoros, and Steal Nouvel of Sima has often flown the island's flag in the final stage. Mrengué also livens up the evenings there (see Traditional sports and games).

Football, basketball and handball each have their own regional league, affiliated to the French federations. The regional finals of the Coupe de France are followed with fervour: the winner then defends the island's colours against clubs from Réunion and mainland France. The sea remains a playground, with the Mamoudzou canoe race, kayaking and diving in the lagoon. The island has produced top-level athletes such as Toifilou Maoulida, El Fardou Ben Nabouhane and Kaïla Issoufi (see Figures & feats).
